Former Baltimore Raven Kelly Gregg has signed a one-year contract to join the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs were in dire need of defensive lineman and in particular a NT after the losses of Ron Edwards and Shaun Smith this week. This signing will be much like Gregg’s career in that it won’t come with a ton of bells or whistles from a media/fan perspective but will pay dividends down the road. Gregg has been unspectacular but solid throughout his career. Many thought Gregg would be re-signed by the Ravens after the market dried up but KC jumped on the opportunity to sign Gregg. It was widely believed that KC would attempt to land the bigger name in Aubrayo Franklin but they went for the steady more cost efficient option in Gregg. And I love it from a KC perspective. This one won’t draw the attention a Franklin signing would have but is a great pickup for a team on the right track.
KC has focused on re-signing their own and adding cost efficient veterans. The additions of Gregg and Steve Breaston won’t come with the pub of a Philly-Nnamdi signing but they may be equally effective in the long run. KC has filled needs and did it without breaking the bank or mortgaging future abilities to add talent. I like what KC has done so far.
