The Falcons have just jumped into “having a strong free agency period” conversation. After reports surfaced last night that Ray Edwards to Cleveland was heating up they were quickly scorched by Cleveland media. Atlanta found themselves this morning as the only pony in this race and in the end they get their man.
Clearly, after re-signing Tyson Clabo they were going to focus their attention to Edwards. Locking up Clabo happened yesterday afternoon and locking up Ray Edwards for the next five years today. Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reported that the Falcons came to terms with Ray Edwards on a five-year deal. The deal is a 5-year, $30 million with $11 million guaranteed. Thomas Dmitroff and the rest of the Atlanta Falcon front office win the award for smartest moves by a front office this offseason. They were able to get Tyson Clabo for $5 million/year and Ray Edwards for $6 million/year. #WINNERS
In his five seasons in Minnesota, Edwards has racked up 29.5 sacks in 58 starts. In Atlanta, Edwards will have the same setup as in Minnesota where he plays alongside another solid pass rusher in John Abraham.
The Edwards deal came on the the heels of the Jamaal Anderson and Michael Jenkins which were believed to be signs of a pending Ray Edwards signing.
