"2012 NFL Draft prospect DeVier Posey"DeVier Posey

Ohio State

Ht. 6-2 Wt. 212

Hands:  DeVier Posey’s biggest downfall is his inconsistent hands.  He allows the ball to get to his body too often and loses concentration more often than he should.  He does catch the ball well in traffic and doesn’t appear to duck contact over the middle.  He excels in the vertical game as he catches the ball at it’s highest point and can adjust in midair with the best of them.

Route Running:  Posey is one of the top route runners in the 2012 NFL Draft.  He is quick in and out of breaks.  He is a savvy route runner that finds openings in zone and instinctively knows when to sit down in coverage.  The crispness of his routes suggests a solid work ethic as he’s well beyond his years in this area.

After the Catch:  DeVier Posey didn’t run across the middle much at OSU as he was used primarily in the vertical game.  He does have an impressive size/speed combo that would suggest he could be dangerous in the open field.  On the rare occasions that he got the ball in space he was tough to bring down.  He has average vision as a runner and I wouldn’t expect him to be a big time threat for YAC in the NFL.

Athleticism:  Posey isn’t an elite athlete but he’s no slouch.  The former track runner has good football speed but not elite speed for the position.  His size, strength, and body control are impressive and should get him some looks early in the draft.

Bottom Line:  The 2011 season was pretty much a wash for DeVier Posey.  NCAA sanctions took 10 games from Posey’s senior season.  He will have to answer some questions about those sanctions and the fact that he was a repeat offender.  Posey is a guy that most have forgotten about due to not throwing up huge numbers.  Let’s face it Terrelle Pryor wasn’t exactly the most accurate QB and Posey bailed him out consistently on errant passes.  I like Posey more than most and think he’s an early day two selection in April.  He will have to catch the ball more consistently if he wants to hang around in the NFL for awhile.

Draft Projection:  3-4
