33. Houston Texans – Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville
What a first draft for Bill O’Brien if he can pull off this coup. I don’t see Bridgewater making it out of the first round, so the Texans may have to deal back into the first if they value Teddy Ballgame.
34. Washington Redskins – Ra’Shede Hageman, DT/DE, Minnesota
Hageman’s motor may run a little hot and cold but when it’s hot he’s really good. If Hageman slides out of round one I can’t see him making it far down in round two.
35. Cleveland Browns – Allen Robinson, WR, Penn St.
The Browns probably would’ve loved to have added a corner in this spot but adding a talent like Robinson is too good to pass on. Robinson isn’t a burner but his skills after the catch are special at his size.
36. Oakland Raiders – Jimmie Ward, S, NIU
I’m not sure Charles Woodson is going to hold up for a full season at the FS spot. Nor am I sure the Raiders want that. This regime realizes (or should realize) the sense of urgency. Ward is ready to take over the spot opposite Tyvon Branch.
37. Atlanta Falcons – Dee Ford, OLB, Auburn
I’m not sure this could have worked out any better for the Falcons. Scoring Greg Robinson and Dee Ford in the top frames would have Thomas Dimitroff running for the hills.
38. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Donte Moncrief, WR, Ole Miss
Many believe Mike Evans could be the target in round one. If he doesn’t make it down to No. 7, Moncrief makes a ton of sense at 38. He’s big and was done a disservice by the poor QB play at Ole Miss.
39. Jacksonville Jaguars – Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Eastern Illinois
David Caldwell significantly upgrades Gus Bradley’s offense with the selections of Watkins and Garoppolo. Jimmy G can sit behind Chad Henne for a little while or until he’s ready to take over.
40. Minnesota Vikings – Demarcus Lawrence, DE, Boise St.
Mike Zimmer will be looking for front four pass rushers and Lawrence can bring the heat off the edge with the best of them. Lawrence has a first round skill set but comes with some off-the-field baggage that could steer teams away from him in the first.
41. Buffalo Bills – Jace Amaro, TE, Texas Tech
The Bills passed on Eric Ebron is round one for Taylor Lewan and they are rewarded with Amaro falling into their laps at No. 41.
42. Tennessee Titans – Carlos Hyde, RB, Ohio St.
Hyde can do it all. He’s a power runner with good feet and balance, can catch, and is an adequate pass blocker. The Titans need a bellcow back as Shonn Greene is just an average option.
43. New York Giants – Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida St.
Many have Jernigan pegged as a mid-first rounder. As I said last week, I don’t feel comfortable slotting him in there as there are some concerns with his ability to impact on the interior at the next level. That said, he’s a great value at 43 and fills a major need for the Giants.
44. St. Louis Rams – Ja’Wuan James, OT, Tennessee
The Rams gambled in the first round by not taking a tackle. With Cyrus Kouandijo, Morgan Moses, and James remaining on the board at 44, that gamble appears to have paid off.
45. Detroit Lions – Phillip Gaines, CB, Rice
With Chris Houston’s future up in the air, the Lions need to address the CB spot early in this draft. Gaines is a guy that most are just catching up to but his ball skills and size have had the attention of NFL decision makers.
46. Pittsburgh Steelers – Davante Adams, WR, Fresno St.
The Steelers are looking for a big receiver to pair with Antonio Brown. They get him in the second round with Derek Carr’s top target. Adams is going to need a little time to fully develop but his upside is through the roof.
47. Dallas Cowboys – Tom Savage, QB, Pittsburgh
Tony Romo is due a ton of money so it’s not likely that he’ll be shown the door anytime soon. That said, his succession plan needs to being sooner rather than later. Savage has the arm talent that makes teams swoon, so Jerry Jones will be all over this one.
48. Baltimore Ravens – Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia
A pair of UVA bookends for Ozzie? Moses is a steal in the mid-second round. He could slide right in at RT and make an impact in year one. Sign the Ravens up for that.
49. New York Jets – Pierre Desir, CB, Lindenwood
Rex Ryan is going to get his corner at some point, so they take the small school standout. Desir has the man cover skills and size to eventually be a very good one in the league.
