Barring the slew of trades that will occur, the 2014 NFL Draft order is set. 32 compensatory picks have been announced today at the NFL Owner’s Meeting in Orlando.
13 teams were awarded picks with the Ravens the clear cut winners with picks in the 3rd, (2) 4th, and 5th rounds of May’s draft. The rich get richer as San Francisco was awarded the 100th overall pick making 11 total draft picks and six of the top 100. With an already loaded roster, I would expect San Francisco to move many of these picks in moves up the draft, additional trades for players, or for picks in 2015.
The compensatory picks are awarded based on a compensatory formula developed by the NFL Management Council to award picks for free agents lost by teams. The formula factors in salary, playing time, and postseason honors. Not all free agent losses are awarded picks as it caps out the number to 32 and these picks cannot be traded.
