2014 NFL Draft Offensive Position by Position Rankings

"Teddy Bridgewater"

Crystal LoGiudice-USA TODAY Sports

We are one month out from the 2013 NFL Draft, yet I get emails almost on a daily basis about 2014 prospects. Many of the questions relate to the quarterback class but there seems to be some major intrigue to a class headlined by Jadeveon Clowney and Teddy Bridgewater.

The 2013 class lacks the top end name that the 2012 class had in spades. But remember this time last year we were hyping guys like Matt Barkley and Logan Thomas as the second coming of the 2012 class. I have no doubts that the 2014 class will be star studded and one to look forward to for another year. Before the end of weekend you will have our entire position by position breakdown of the 2014 prospects.

After the break check out our 2014 NFL Draft offensive prospects.

Likewise I’m not wanting to think about next year until after the conclusion of this one, but never the less, now I’m here…

Some small school guys who caught my eye this year that I’ll be following closely: QB Dustin Vaughn – West Texas A&M, RB Shakir Bell – Indiana State, WR Gerald Ford – Valdosta State, WR Mark Ross – Lafayette.

I’m also really high on some other guys. This year I didn’t trust myself enough on guys who are now high on everyone’s boards, so this time round I’m sticking my neck out for these guys! OT Ed Olson – Minnesota, WR Geraldo Boldewijn – Boise State, TE Kaneakua Friel – BYU.

There’s a bunch of defensive guys too, but I’ll wait and see if any of them appear on your list later on.

    • bradc11

Ed Olson is a guy that I forgot about. He should be on the list. Haven’t seen or noticed Boldewijn and Friel was a guy that I wasn’t overly impressed with. Defensive rankings will be out on Sunday.

      • Bex_R1986

Phew, glad Olson was just an oversight! Boldewijn should be poised for a big season so keep a look out!

  • Braeden

I really like the 2014 draft class at the QB Position
    my rankings are:
    1-Murray
    2-Bridgewater
    3-Mccarron
    4-Boyd
    5-Carr
    6-Fales
    7-Thomas
    8-Gardner

    9-Bryn Renner
    10-James Franklin
    11-Hundley(who i expect to return)
    12-Mariota

If Manziel was a freshmen last season, how come you have him in draft rankings if he would be ineligible?

    • http://www.facebook.com/brian.hoesing.5 Brian Hoesing

Manziel was a redshirt freshman last season. Meaning he will be 3 years removed from high school and eligible for the draft next year.

      • Braeden

in that case slide him into number 2 and move everyone down in my rankings

        • bradc11

You gotta watch more Bridgewater. He’s the real deal. Clear #1 unless he suffers an injury.

          • Braeden

I am a huge fan of murray and thought that at times his tape looked better than 2011 barkley, and he is a proven standout. he will enter the draft as my number one Qb, although manziel, bridgewater, and mccarron are all close. and I wouldnt discount logan thomas or Derek Carr either. A very good crop of QBs compared to last year, and I think it compares better to 2012 class as far as depth and I am expecting to or three to emerge as top ten picks. likely four or five in the first but it is too early to tell.

          • Bex_R1986

I am surprised, as one of the last things I would call Murray is “a proven standout”. For me he’s quite the opposite. He beat up on lower option then bombed against any decent defense or big occasion he played in. Doesn’t bode well for consistently better NFL defenses. If he goes high in the first round next year without improving in this area, it will be a reach for me.

Bridgewater on the other hand, is so far ahead of any QB eligible next year in my opinion. Far and away the best.

          • Braeden

BY ‘proven standout’ I meant that he is clearly in the upper echelon of college QBs and he, as a prospect, has all the skills to be great and can develop into a good QB in the mix of drew Brees and a little bit of tony Romo in his game. He has to prove this year he can win under pressure, as the Bulldogs SHOULD be NC contenders, but it rests on his shoulders, if he can play at a high level and WIN games that matter, than he should solidify himself as a top ten pick.

          • Bex_R1986

All very good points. He has a lot to prove though, so we shall see next year. Bridgewater is the complete package though. One of the best football IQ’s, decision making, calmness under pressure. leadership, battling through injury, physicality and athleticism There’s no weakness in his game and he is the standout prospect.

We shall see how each of them progresses! =)

          • Braeden

Yes, but we all thought that Barkley was the perfect prospect last year, so we really don’t know. Right now I am going to go with Murray, though you never know, Logan Thomas could progress and become the number one QB.

The guys that I think could be the number one QB this season are:
-Murray (my number one, if he can prove himself)

-Bridgewater (the guy I think can be the top guy if he performs at an EXTREMELY high level being that he is in a weak conference)

-Thomas (the guy with the best physical tools and could have a meteoric, cam newton-like rise)

-Manziel (the ‘hype’ guy, he could be the guy that becomes one of the best college players ever)

-McCarron(the proven winner, you know what your getting type player who if he leads the team more so than usual than he could be the best option)

-Carr (similar to bridgewater, but has a tougher climb)

            -Fales (see Derek Carr)

          • Bex_R1986

Well I shall start by saying I never though Barkley was that great, and Thomas wont be either. Logan Thomas will not be an NFL QB, I will say that now and stand by it.w

Bridgewater is the No.1. He shall be picked ahead of Clowney. I stand by that.

Manziel, Boyd, Fales and McCarron are legitemate franchise QB’s.

            Murray is not.

          • Bex_R1986

And just another point. you say we all thought Barkley is the perfect prospect? I barely see him as a prospect at all, let alone perfect, so please dont put words in other peoples mouths, thank you

          • Braeden

OK, fine, MOST OF US thought barkley was a clean cut number one prospect. and what do you have against Murray?
I am not a fan of Logan Thomas and never been, but the potential and possibility for him to grow is there. I dont think manziel is mature enough yet to be a pro, and I think he should stay in college after this season, I think Boyd is overrated, but McCarron I am a huge fan of.

          • Bex_R1986

Wow, I should not be allowed to post comments when drunk lol. Apologies for the above 3am-posted comments. Barkley is a worthy prospect, though he’s a low ceiling guy. However I do still say that Logan Thomas wont succeed as a QB.

So, to be more constructive in my comments rather than argumentative (!), Murray does have potential, but lacks a lot of the extras that takes a technically good QB to a legitimate franchise QB. Pressure in clutch situations, handling pressure, decision makings when pressured, things like that. Brees is common comparison due to Murray being slightly undersized, but I don’t see all the extras that helps Brees overcome some of those things.

Bridgewater, I don’t believe that he has any real concerns with competition quality, he played against an ecellent Rutgers defense who were among the best in any conference and rose to the occasion against Florida in the bowl game this year. As I’ve said previously, he has all the skills and physical abilities required too.

I love McCarron I must admit, I think he goes high next year. I’d agree with Boyd after his sophomore season but he made huge strides last year, and I expect him to improve again this year as he’s a hard worker.

Fales has a few more questions, as there are aspects which are more unknown. With only one year out of JUCO, I havent seen what he’s like in progressing from year to year. However, his potential is a R1 QB and if he progresses as I believe he can do, he should be a top 5 pick.

Manziel, he splits opinions for sure. Your point on him being immature has some merit, but he comes across as a good guy in interviews and I don’t think he’s immature, just young. He won’t need to risk injury so I think there’s a good chance he declares early, whether everyone agrees or not. Should he declare he’s also a top pick, he’s the real thing I think.

Once again, sorry for my earlier posts lol.

          • Braeden

Lol its cool. And I think this is a strong QB class so i think the teams in need of a qb should wait it out for now until this class rolls along because I think there are four or five players in this class who could be elite qbs as far as potential. And as far as fales and boyd, I think there are a lot of question marks especially with fales but the problem I have with boyd is I would like to see him dominate against weaker ACC defenses more consistently. There were times that he played really well but not to the point I would expect him to. He needs to really shine this year to get ahead of mccaron bridgewater etc. him fales and carr are the furthest from the top among guys within reach of that top spot. I really didnt like logan thomas last year but I wont deny he has potential. If bridgewater dominates in conference play and makes another BCS bowl game then he should solidify himself, and murray needs to finally lead georgia to an SEC championship and be a more clutch performer to make it into the top spot for qbs. Its gonna be a fun year for college football and the draft.

  • Bex_R1986

By the way, just noticed Sean Price of Appalachian State on your underclassmen WR list. I am actually watching an ASU game as I type. He’s unlikely to declare next year as a redshirt sophomore, but the guy is the real deal!
