The 2012 NFL Draft will be well represented in this Big XII matchup.
The most talked about (other than Andrew Luck) prospect thus far in 2011 has been Robert Griffin III. He will face a tough test with Coryell Judie on the corner and Sean Porter applying pressure. Kendall Wright will play in this contest after he had a scare last week with his knee. This game will be important for Ryan Tannehill and Jeff Fuller as they have underperformed in 2011. Tannehill has posted big numbers but struggled late in games. Fuller hasn’t shown much of anything thus far and his draft stock is slipping quickly.
Guys to keep an eye on:
Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor #10 (Junior)
RGIII may be the favorite to win the Heisman and could be a top 10 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. His aptitude in the classroom and on the field is impressing many. His skills on the field are well documented and he could add further to his rise with a solid performance against the Aggies defense. Coryell Judie is back to full health and Sean Porter has filled in where Von Miller left off. The Aggies are prone to giving up points, so this could be a high scoring affair with RGIII pushing himself to the top of draft boards.
Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor #1
Kendall Wright has been the beneficiary of RGIII’s fantastic 2011. Wright has 7 or more receptions in six consecutive games and has caught a ball in all 42 of his collegiate games. Wright has the speed to stretch the defense and excellent hands. He doesn’t possess great size at 5’10” 190 but could be a dynamic slot receiver in the NFL. Before this season, Wright wasn’t getting the publicity one normally receives when they post numbers as he has throughout his career. Wright could be working his way into the second round. This weekend’s matchup with Coryell Judie will be huge for both players.
Terrance Ganaway, RB, Baylor #24
Ganaway is a big back at 6’0” 240 but this is his first year carrying the load. He has 536 yards and 6 TD’s while averaging 6.1 yards/carry for the Bears. Ganaway is a late round pick at this point but could work his way into the early stages of day three with consistent performances.
Coryell Judie, CB, Texas A&M #5
The former JUCO standout has made a name for himself in NFL Draft circles for his playmaking abilities. Judie is injury prone which will raise some concerns come next April but could be a solid 2nd-3rd round pick that could develop into a starting corner in the NFL. He will be asked to contain the dynamic passing attack of the Baylor Bears this weekend which should present a good matchup with he and Kendall Wright.
Jeff Fuller, WR, Texas A&M #8
Fuller has yet to replicate his production in past seasons thus far in 2011. Fuller’s draft stock is plummeting with poor effort and no separation as the major knocks on his game. Fuller appeared lazy in the Arkansas game and was a no-show against Texas Tech. Fuller needs more consistent effort if he wants to be drafted before day three.
Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M #17
Much like his teammate, Jeff Fuller, Tannehill is losing traction when it comes to his draft stock. Tannehill is a good athlete with solid throwing skills but makes too many mistakes at important times in big games. Tannehill will have to be lights out the rest of the way through the 2011 season if he wants to hear his name called before day three of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Cyrus Gray, RB, Texas A&M #32
Cyrus Gray is the team’s leading rusher but he has essentially split carries with Christine Michael in 2011. Michael is the more dynamic of the two runners. Gray has posted 479 yards and 7 TD’s in six games with a 4.9 yards/carry average. Baylor’s rush defense is not good which could mean a big day for Gray. He needs to capitalize on this opportunity to keep himself amongst the top running backs come next April.
