The Arizona Cardinals drafted RB Ryan Williams to share carries with the oft-injured Chris “Beanie” Wells. Now it appears they will have to find someone else to take Williams role.
Williams was carted off the field in the third quarter of Friday’s game with the Green Bay Packers. Williams underwent more testing which confirmed he has a torn patellar tendon which will knock him out for the whole 2011 season. The Cardinals have little depth behind Wells and Williams after the team traded Tim Hightower to the Redskins this offseason.
Williams was a second round pick out of Virginia Tech that played injured most of the 2010 season which included missing four games due to a hamstring tear.
Ryan Williams injury leaves LaRod Stephens-Howling and Alfonso Smith as backups to the injury prone Beanie Wells. The Cardinals will almost certainly have to pick up a veteran RB as insurance for if or when Wells goes down with foot or ankle issues.
